My life
was once filled with the grey of:
cloudy days,
rain and drizzle,
repetition ad nauseum,
plodding steps with mire encased feet,
hunched shoulders,
frowns — never smiles,
managing and maintaining,
sustaining the status quo,
trying to avoid the cracks in the pavement,
being careful and forever watchful,
blending in by trying to be less than,
compacted rage,
distrust,
resentment,
forever denied intensity.
But that was then.
Now
my world is filled with delicious hues:
cotton candy tastes pink,
coffee smells brown
and so does the damp earth,
mown grass smells green
and so do cucumbers,
laughter sounds purple —
my favourite colour,
smiles are bright yellow,
soul stirring music is a deep royal blue.
I marvel at the possibility of
innumerable shades of
red and green and blue.
They transfix me
with their transparent depth.
They fill my heart with delight,
and remind me of the potential
and joy of creation.
My life can be draining and drab
or made of a life-affirming tapestry.
The choice is mine.
